Dakin Humane Society seeks an experienced finance manager. The finance manager reports to the executive director and is based at the Springfield Adoption & Education Center. Candidates must have management experience with a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or management (equivalent experience will be considered). Must have at least five years of experience in financial administration, including experience preparing and analyzing financial statements and managing the financial audit process. Experience in philanthropy or nonprofit management a plus.
Strong proficiency in MS Office applications, QuickBooks accounting software, and relational databases required.

Dakin Position Description
Title: Finance Manager
Reports to: Executive Director
Hours: Part-time, exempt, salaried
Function: Under the supervision of the executive director, the manager of finance is responsible for the organization's financial wellbeing through careful record-keeping, cash management, budgeting, and planning. This manager also oversees the organization's information technology functions.
Responsibilities:

Responsible for the process and maintenance of all accounting records, including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

Responsible for the preparation and filing of all required federal, state, and local tax returns and government reports.

Prepares all materials required for annual audits undertaken by the organization's independent auditors.

Creates and implements accounting controls and periodic internal auditing in all departments.
budgeting and reporting:
-
Leads the organizational budgeting process.
-
Prepares and periodically reviews all budgets, both operating and capital.
-
Prepares annual, monthly, and quarterly financial statements.
-
Prepares monthly operating statements and special projects.
-
Prepares regular financial reports for the treasurer and board of directors.
-
Works with program staff to prepare cost estimates for projects or programs.
-
Prepares financial data for grant requests and reports.
-
Oversees long range planning and implementation of capital projects.
investments and banking:
-
Works with the investment firm and the finance committee to monitor and report on investments in the Dakin endowment and other funds.

Manages operating cash.

Maintains banking accounts.
insurance

Maintains the organization's risk management insurance programs.
information technology

Ensures adequate IT hardware inventory to support the work of the organization.

Ensures software compliance.

Responsible for IT security, including backups, anti-virus, and functionality.
personnel

Provides direct supervision to assigned staff and volunteers.

Has oversight of information technology consultants and staff who provide IT support to all Dakin facilities and departments.
Other responsibilities:

Meets with executive director regularly to determine strategies.

Serves as the staff liaison to the treasurer of the Dakin board of directors and the finance committee.

Periodically presents information to the Dakin board of directors regarding finance.

Works with leadership to recommend and implement policy/procedural changes for financial practices and policies.

Complies with Dakin personnel policies.
-
Attends appropriate staff meetings, including leadership team meetings.
-
Serves on appropriate committees, task forces, and networks.
-
Represents Dakin in a professional and courteous manner at all times.

Provides quality service to customers, volunteers, donors, and staff recognizing their individual contribution to the success of our organization.

Regularly participates in meetings with staff and volunteers to share ideas and suggestions designed to improve working conditions and the organization.

Performs other duties as assigned by the executive director.
Position Requirements
Education:
